EDDL 5141 Week 5 Activity 3

The online course that I have audited for my assignment, as the following 4 learning outcomes:

  • Assess the cultural significance of Shakespeare’s plays and their performance in his own time and the present, in his own country and around the world.
  • Evaluate different approaches to textual interpretation centered on authorial intention, historical context, and present relevance.
  • Analyze Shakespeare’s plays on the page and in performance using these three approaches.
  • Extend knowledge and skills gained from this course to the specific plays studied later in the series.

Following a behaviourist model, the learners are explicitly told of the course learning outcomes at the start (Ally, 2008). These outcomes explore the what, how and why of Shakespeare’s plays and require learners to use higher-level thinking by assessing, evaluating, analyzing and extending. Each Individual outcome is specific and relevant to the learners and relates to either the cognitive or affective domain as described by Bloom (1956).

 

The learning outcomes utilize the SMART criteria.
S -Each outcome gears the learner to a specific focus such as ‘cultural significance’ or ‘3 approaches’.
M– All learning activities measure students ability to demonstrate this skill and each learning outcome, with the exception of the third as it is cumulative, is repeated in each section.
A– supporting resources in the form of tutorials and peer discussion and feedback alLow these outcomeS to be attainable by students. The rubrics also promote differentiation by outcome as every student will be able to demonstrate these outcomes to an extent.
R-All outcomes are relevant and linked explicitly to the syllabus.
T-A variety of resources provided allow learners to achieve these outcomes within the 6 month time frame. Indeed, they even provide guidance on how to successfully complete the course.
